WOW - What a fantastic program - Great Audio, Music and Fellowship hosted by Dave and Lisa...

Dave & Lisa Strohauer owner/operators of this unique and interesting multi-theme shop hosted this meeting.  We enjoyed two showrooms featuring their line of high-sensitivity Cain & Cain  loudspeakers and launch a new line of in-house developed Vivid Si66 stereo integrated tube amplifiers.  We also viewed the upcoming purist model Si74 20 wpc integrated Cascode amplifier. The able staff engineers and assembles amplifiers and other electronics in their own facilities with loving care, including 24K Gold conductor interconnects, speaker cables, CD D/A converters and other goodies.  LP is also featured with relish including products by Sumiko and others.  Antique Audio Labs and LA Audio gear among others are also featured.

This is one of the most welcoming pro Music, Audio Shops and Fine Instrument shops in our region staffed by a most accommodating and knowledgeable staff.    Several members brought their favorite CD or LPs.

As a bonus, chief in-house designer Randy Cale conducted a short clinic covering Cascode Tube Amp design.

Sunday, October 16, 2005 - 2 - 5:30 PM Audio Atlanta Shop - 19 Atlanta St, Marietta Ga. 30030 - Located 1/2 block off the historic Marietta square.

This months theme was: "Everything you ever wanted to know about Turntables"

Pete Marshall and Gordon Waters hosted an LP/Analog focused program highlighted with the latest VAC tube gear the new Auricle Preamp and Monoblocks. Turntable gear was VPI's TNT and Scout, and the Music Hall MM5 SE.  1960's vintage tables were showcased as well including a ARXA's and Connoisseur.Other gear showcased was be PS Audio and NAD. Loudspeakers were by Maritin-Logan,Tannoy, Vandersteen and Boston. Cartridges were by Ortofon, Benz and Goldging.  Products for a variety of budgets were presented

Guest  speakers are Dr. Tommy J. Anderson and Fred Horton founders of ACA Digital recording label and in-house recordist for the Atlanta Symphony. These seasoned experts presented another of their remarkable programs on the fine art of recording with demonstrated examples and related topics.

Among a variety of topics, were comparison playback [from a CD] of the various levels of MP3 quality along with some uncompressed PCM examples. We held a live a"Golden Ears" evaluation for each member to attempt.  An "Evaluation Sheet" was provided with places for each listener to choose what level of resolution they were hearing.  The demonstration also included introduction of a Marantz Professional model 570 CF MP-3 Recorder.

The second part was presented by Fred Horton was "What can go wrong on location recording." Sometimes funny and somtimes challenging with what field recordist encounter in the field.

We also held a fun Raffle of many CD's, headphones and other items.

Hosted by Harold and Linka Taylor. Member spouses and significant others had a really fine time plus plenty of good audio via Harold's first rate home engineered and constructed system.

Members and Friends joined us for our exciting second annual field trip to SMART Devices Inc. in Norcross. SMART Devices, engineers and manufactures the world's largest product Line of Cinema Sound Components and Systems in the Motion Picture Industry.

This program was hosted by President and Founder Norm Schneider. A variety of subjects were addressed including vintage LP transfers CD, Commercial Theater design horn loudspeaker design for Theaterd and AC Power conditioning. Home Audio electronics are also designed and manufactured in this professionally managed facility and included a factory tour.

A large collection of vintage Radio, Audio equipment and accessories was also on exhibit and appreciated by all.

A Loricraft LP cleaning machine was available for members to clean up to 5 LP's at $1.00 each.

Field Trip to Bruel & Kjaer - National Hq. and Labs

We were hosted by North America's premier audio, acoustics, precision microphone and calibration lab hosted by lead engineer Jim Weir. Jim focused on significant aspects of loudspeaker evaluation using Bruel  & Kjaer's latest and most sophisticated test equipment.

Directions: B & K is located appx 8 miles north of I-285 and may be reached from either Peachtree Industrial Blvd (Just north of Peachtree Corners) or Buford Hwy. Join us for one of our most fun events and a chance to clean your closets of working audio gear and accessories (plus swap some recordings).  This is a fund raiser for the club, so a percentage of each sale will be returned to our non-profit treasury for future events.  Dr. Phil Muse plans to spin some of his recent review faves for our listening pleasure. JVC Home Theater and Surround Audio Program with Von Schweikert Loudspeakers + Big Raffle

Program: A large group of members and guests attended JVC's showcase of their latest 61" D-ILA (Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier) rear projection Hi-Def TV and front projection technology for Home Theater and Music playback.  Other new goodies such as new wood cone dynamic driver loudspeakers cured in sake, the ultimate audiophile tweak applied in compact stereo systems were demonstrated to good effect.  A complete Home Theater/Surround Audio set of Von Schweikert loudspeakers including the remarkable VR-4JR's comprised the primary audio playback for the afternoon.  

We conducted a fine $3 per ticket raffle with JVC donating one of their latest DVD/DVD-A/CD Player/Home Theater 5.1 Dolby/DTS 100wpc combo receivers, Soundstrings cables is donating a complete set of Home-Theater/Surround Audio loudspeaker cables and power cords for digital devices.  JVC provided product experts to answer your questions about a wide range of A/V topics.

Linn Audio Electronics, Loudspeakers and Accessories

Brian Morris of the U. K. (Scotland) and Brian Day U.S. representative conducted one of the best "sounding" and fun programs in memory.  Byran of Linn's head office now holds the record for the longest trip in the shortest turn-around in Audio Society history.  In 24 hrs he made a round trip from London to Atlanta and back just for this remarkable meeting.  Kudos all around for Brian Morris and from his own account was well worth the trouble, and we concur as well.  Many thanks Brian you're a real trooper. We're already talking about a future follow-up event.

Linn showcased their latest Digital and Analog Electronics, with special focus on their newest top-line UNIDISK 1.1 universal CD/DVD-A/SACD combo player.  The very musical Akurate 242 5-way loudspeaker with 3-K array was also demonstrated to the pleasure of the attentive listeners (audiophiles can behave when they try when the music and sound is so good).  The speakers were served by the beautifully crafted and performing Klimax preamp and Klimax Twin stereo power amp. More notes on this program soon.

Linn also donated a bag full of their in-house produced SACD's which were well received and appreciated.

B & W Loudspeakers at Ga. Home Theater - Marietta, Ga.

This special event specific to the Atlanta Audio Society was hosted by Georgia Home Theater.  Marc Schnoll, B&W Group Product Manager was present to present their new 800 diamond Series speaker line up.  We enjoyed an evening of fun at Georgia Home Theater and great audio and music.  We enjoyed some of the newest and best and best in home entertainment.    Many thanks GHT.

Vintage Audio Trip Down Memory Lane

Our second annual "Vintage" expo of operational Factory and home built gear was a grand and well attended success. Jeff Priluck and Robert Cunniongham demonstrated several excellent examples of mint 60's HH Scott & Fisher gear. Lee Tigler demonstrate professional soldering techniques.  We even had a live FM broadcast from a vintage 1930's 44MHz radio transmitter and receiver.  What a blast!  At least 10 tables of gear was demonstrated in loving manner by their owners to applause all around.  Sales were allowed and a modest 10% was rebated back to the club as a fundraiser. 

Many thanks to everyone who participated despite the.  We'll do it again.

JVC and Their Latest XRCD Recordings

JVC and their latest XRCD recordings presented by Executive Producer Kevin Berg.  This was an encore appearance by Kevin and if his last visit is any indication, this one will be equally well received.  We enjoyed an afternoon of music listening and auditioned the new Wisdom Audio 'NEO' Planar/Magnetic loudspeakers with integral 12" woofer, specially shipped to Atlanta for this program. We'll also featured the Cary Audio V-12 "Rocket" edition stereo power amp with switchable Triode(50wpc) and Pentode (100 wpc) modes and sporting 12 new Soviet KT-88's in all their glory!  We conducted a big raffle of XRCD and other CDs.
