Minutes of the January 29, 2006
Musical Fidelity.
The January, 2006 meeting of
the Atlanta Audio Society was held at the Dunwoody North Driving Club, and
started at 2 PM. Our special guest was audio
veteran Dave Soloman from Signal Path
International, a distributor of Musical Fidelity products and manufacturer of
the Era Speaker line (under the name of Era Acoustics).
First up was the Musical Fidelity products Dave brought to the meeting. After giving us background on the Musical
Fidelity product line and its president, Anthony, we listened to the A 5
integrated amp and the A 5 24/96 vacuum tube CD player. Both of these units retail for $2500 and
feature first rate fit and finish, very appealing to the eye and ear. The speakers used during this part of the
demo were the ERA Design 4 loudspeakers.
After a break,
Dave gave us a history of the Era line of speakers. These speakers are meant to be compact (bookshelf
or stand mount) “lifestyle” speakers,
similar to the small Bose speakers (for example) but of audiophile quality. They were designed by Dave and his business
partner Mike, and are built in

During
this meeting, Chuck Bruce, president of the AAS announced that he will not seek
re-election for office in 2006. After
serving multiple terms in various officer positions for 20 years, it’s time for
a break. This to attend to family and personal business, and finally mow the
grass. Chuck conveys thanks to everyone
as it has been a great experience and an honor to have served in these
positions. In the interim (before our next election), George Meals, Hank Henley, Thomas Horner, Denny
Meeker and Chuck will serve as the Executive Committee members as defined in
the AAS Constitution. An election of
new officers will be conducted in the spring or as soon as possible per the
Constitution.
The meeting ended at 4:45 PM. A raffle of CD’s and a pair of Era Design 4
speakers was held during the meeting.
One lucky person (AAS member Steve Goodin) won the speakers, and
everyone else won at least one CD!
Respectfully
Submitted,
